Defying predictions, Kate Middleton wasn't the star of the 2011 British Fashion Awards, but Victoria Beckham proved her reign as London's original fashion queen.
Britain's fashion cream of the crop gathered at the Savoy Hotel to celebrate the awards ceremony, with Sarah Burton and Beckham as big winners.
The Duchess of Cambrdige wasn't in attendance, but her influence was felt when the creator of her wedding gown nabbed the night's biggest prize.
Burton, the design director of Alexander McQueen, nabbed the Designer of the Year award, due to the global press that buzzed around her sensational royal design. If it wasn't for Middleton, there's a big chance another designer might have gotten the award.
The Kate Middleton effect that took over the world is a clear-cut example why. Just hours after the royal wedding, replicas of the dress were already selling out online, with thousands of brides wanting to look like the Duchess on their special day.
Stella McCartney proudly won the Red Carpet Award and posed on the blue carpet with Hollywood A-lister Kate Hudson. Brit fashion veteran Beckham won the trophy for Best Designer Brand for her Spring/Summer 2012 collection showcased at the London Fashion Week earlier this year.
Designer Christopher Kane won the New Establishment Award and posed with TV personality Alexa Chung on the blue carpet. Chung looked classy in a short creation by the designer.
Female designers dominated the Accessories Awards with their cutting-edge footwear designs. Shoe designer Tabitha Simmons won the Accessories Emerging Talent award, while Charlotte Olympia nabbed the Accessory Designer of the Year award.
As for the worst-dressed list, Kate Hudson is topped this year's list, as well as designer Giles Deacon, whose camouflage and suede tuxedo ensemble looked more like something created from a camp site rather than in a fashion house. Hudson looked utterly misplaced wearing a fishnet string gown over a simple white dress.
