“True Detective” will be having Brad Pitt in the starring role next season, if the reports are correct. Angelina Jolie’s fiancé and the father of her six children is reportedly the top contender to star in the second season of the critically acclaimed HBO series.

After the successful run of the show’s first season, it’s almost inevitable that another season would follow. Unfortunately for fans, Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson will not be coming back. Not to worry, though. HBO apparently has another Academy Award-nominated name in mind to lead it.

“Brad’s name has come up many times, it’s just a matter of what his other commitments are,” a source told HollywoodLife.com.

“It’s the show everyone wants to be on, because the writing and the roles are just so exquisite and complex. Brad has tight relations with HBO – he teamed up with Ryan Murphy last year to produce the HBO movie ‘The Normal Heart.’ I know everyone would be thrilled to have him onboard.”

Brad’s involvement isn’t definite, though. The producers would have to look for another actor if Brad isn’t available or if he doesn’t fit the casting requirement.

He might also turn it down if he doesn’t think that his children would be proud of the role.

According to OK! magazine, the 50-year-old actor now only thinks of his brood when choosing roles.

“The key for me [when choosing a film] is to leave something behind that will make my kids proud,” he told the British tabloid. “I want to be able to show my films to my children and say, ‘Your daddy made this.’”

“True Detective” recently concluded its eight-episode first season earlier in March.
