Hull City boss Steve Bruce revealed that efforts to acquire out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley have been made.

The 25-year-old Basingstoke native has only featured once out of four of the Red Devils' fixtures this season, and has been noticeably omitted from the squad in today's game against Burnley.

"There has been conversations between the two clubs and we did have some sort of offer, but where we are up to between the two clubs I am not too sure because I have been away in London,"Bruce told Sky Sports.

"If there is a deal to be done to try and get somebody like Tom then of course we would be interested."

Cleverley failed to live up to expectations at Old Trafford, to say the least, after having so much promise coming through the youth ranks.

He was a key fixture during Wigan Athletic's 2010/11 campaign while on loan, but ultimately failed to retain his form when he returned to United.
