The local share market has wrapped up the last trading day of the week on a positive note, finishing close to the day's highs. The All Ords (XAO) jumped 80 points or 1.5 percent to 5,440, while the ASX 200 (XJO) climbed 84 points or 1.5 percent to 5,465.

The local sharemarket finished the session slightly weaker, after a choppy final hour of trade. The All Ords (XAO) regained some early losses to close down 0.2 percent to 5,334, while the ASX 200 (XJO) lost 0.2 percent to 5,353.

Australian share are sliding for the second day with the ASX 200 Index down 0.6 per cent; adding to Tuesday’s 1.6 per cent slump. The price of oil fell to a fresh 5.5 year low overnight; dropping by 4 per cent. The more than halving in oil prices in just six months continues to put the energy sector under the most selling pressure.

Josh Childress had 17 points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and seven assists to lead the Sydney Kings in beating the Perth Wildcats, 78-74 Thursday at Qantas Credit Union Arena. With the win, the Sydney Kings ended a 16-game losing streak to the Perth Wildcats.

Australian shares are wiping out all of yesterday's gains with the ASX 200 Index down by 1 per cent. This should come as no surprise following a 4 per cent slump in the oil price, disappointing economic news in China and Japan on Monday, the worst performance for US shares since October overnight and a credit downgrade for Italy.

Local stocks have started the second week of December on a strong footing. The ASX 200 opened flat, although buyers were waiting in the wings and the market was well supported over the course of the morning. The upward momentum for the market ebbed when the index hit the 5380 but prices remained well supported around these levels into the afternoon.

Australian shares are being led higher by the mining and energy sectors with the ASX 200 Index rising by 0.7 per cent. Despite today's rise, the local market had its worst day since 10 October yesterday, hit a 1.5 month low in the process and slumped by 3.5 per over two sessions.
Deutsche Bahn Seeks $3B Damage From 13 Airlines For Price Fixing

Deustche Bahn, the German state-owned railway, filed a new lawsuit in Germany and the U.S. seeking over $3 billion in damage from 13 air cargo companies for price fixing. Included in the lawsuit is Australian flag carrier Qantas which has paid over $160 million for increasing the price of freight via fuel and security surcharges between 2000 and 2006.

The weak tone seen in the first half of the session remained over the course of the afternoon. The ASX 200 was unable to recover from the session lows which was where the index spent most of the session. Over the course of the week the index gained 0.16%

The ASX 200 continued to lose ground over the course of the afternoon. While the market finished around session lows, the more discouraging aspect of the session was the index breaking down through the 5400 level. In the last day the market had shown some signs of support around this key support level, although today's close indicated that the sellers had won out. The more important measure will be whether the index closes above 5400 on a weekly closing basis.
