World No. 1 Rafael Nadal of Spain continues his Sony Open 2014 campaign against Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan in the third round of festivities at the Tennis Center at Crandon Park in Miami, Florida on Tuesday starting at 5:30 am AEDT.
The Spaniard had little trouble in his opening match versus Australian Lleyton Hewitt winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1. Nadal is the favourite in this match-up once again as he is pegged to cruise to an easy victory against Istomin, who defeated Nicolas Mahut, 7-6, 7-6 in the first round and Dmitry Tursonov, 6-7, 6-0, 6-3 in the second round.
Nadal and Istomin have met three times in their careers and each time Nadal came out victorious. Nadal won twice in 2010 including a US Open win to the tune of 6-2, 7-6(5), 7-5. When the pair met again in 2012 it was in another Grand Slam, the French Open. However, this time Nadal completely dominated the Uzbek in another straight sets victory, 6-2, 6-2, 6-0.
In other matches on Tuesday morning, Roberto Bautista Agut takes on fourteenth seed Fabio Fognini and Joao Sousa challenges seventh seed Tomas Berdych.
