Sigourney Weaver could become Sylvester Stallone’s wife in the planned “Expendables” spin-off.
The 68-year-old actor, the star and producer/writer of the “Expendables” action film franchise, has confirmed that a female-driven spin-off called “Expendabelles” is happening, and it will start shooting early 2015.
He also may already have someone in mind to play one of the main characters.
“Are the Expendabelles really part of a divorce? Say Sigourney Weaver was my wife and she inherited half the Expendables? I lost the house and my mercenaries!” Stallone said.
Unfortunately, though, he was just joking when he said that, according to NME.
Weaver would have been a smart and obvious choice to lead a cast of female action stars, though.
The 64-year-old Academy Award-nominated actress is arguably the top female action heroine of all time after starring in blockbusters such as all the “Alien” films and “Avatar.”
Apart from Weaver, who secured her role as Ripley to film fans, there are Angelina Jolie, Milla Jovovich, Kate Beckinsale, Uma Thurman, Michelle Rodriguez, Jennifer Garner, Lucy Lawless, Zhang Ziyi, Carrie-Anne Moss and Linda Hamilton.
And since “Expendables” is an ensemble action film franchise starring ageing action stars and a few younger ones in the mix, it would have been great to have Weaver lead the cast and any or all of the names above join in.
Jovovich is apparently already on board the film.
Meanwhile, the third instalment of “Expendables” is set to hit cinemas in the U.S. on August 15. Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Randy Crews and Arnold Schwarzenegger reprise their roles. Antonio Banderas, Kelsey Grammer, Wesley Snipes, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford also star.
