Samsung Galaxy Note 2 vs. Huawei Ascend Mate: New Phablet Competitor Greater than Note 2?

By on

If you think that Samsung Note 2's huge 5.5 inch screen display is already massive, what do you think of a smartphone with 6.1 inch screen size?

Huawei's rumored smartphone will be a direct competitor of Samsung's phablet. Hauwei's senior vice president Yu Chengdong confirmed that the company will release a large-screen smartphone in early 2013. The Weibo update was actually sent from a Galaxy Note 2. Chengdong says he wanted to try out the competition in order to compare his experience to that of the upcoming rival device.

Thus, Huawei is currently developing a phablet-type device also known as Ascend Mate. Yu also said that the device will offer a "cooler" industrial design, a thinner bezel, and a stunning display. Basically Hauwei is supposedly going to beat out the Note 2′s specs in every way.

If the Huawei giant smartphone can actually match or exceed the specs of the Note 2 while offering a bigger screen and possibly their own stylus, Samsung might actually have some real competition at hand. This device certainly seems to be more of a threat than the LG Intuition has been thus far.

Below is a comparison of the two devices based from the rumored features specs of Huawei's new device.

Design - According to Huawei's SVP, its new smartphone will have a cooler design equipped with slim bezel and better grip. Samsung has made the Note II as much thin and light as possible.

Screen Display - According to the Huawei executive, the Mate will find its way to the phablet arena with a giant 6.1-inch display. Apart from its size, the device will be identified for its 1080p FullHD capability. The device belittled Samsung Galaxy Note 2's own 5.5 inches Super AMOLED screen display with 267-ppi.

Processor - Ascend Mate is rumored to be powered by a 1.8GHz quad-core CPU that will be boosted by 2GB of RAM that overpowers Samsung's phablet 1.6GHz Cortex-A9 processor with Exynos 4412 Quad chipset with 2GB of RAM.

Camera - The Galaxy Note 2 is equipped with an 8MP rear and 1.9MP front cameras.  However, Huawei has not yet said anything about camera.

Connectivity - Samsung Galaxy Note 2 supports NFC and 4G LTE apart from Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPSRS, EDGE and others. The Mate phablet will also have the same features.

Price and Availability - Samsung's smartphone-tablet hybrid device is now available at Samsung Stores and through various carriers at discounted prices. The unlocked version of the phablet costs $899. Huawei, on the other hand, has no word on the pricing but the company is known for producing cheap smartphones. However, the device's availability may be limited in some countries.
