'Revenge' Season 3 Finale Recap, Review: Showrunner Sunil Nayar Explains Twists and Season 4 Clarke Changes [SPOILERS]

By @jotfields on

There are some surprises and shockers in the "Revenge" Season 3 finale. The closing episode aired Sunday, May 11, on ABC. Two major deaths were seen. However, the top highlight of the show is the twist that proved many fan theories right. Showrunner Sunil Nayar explains the Season 4 path.

Spoiler alert: This review recaps the highlights of the Revenge Season 3 Finale, titled "Execution." Read at your own risk.

Daniel Grayson (Josh Bowman) survives the third season finale of Revenge. Emily Thorne's (Emily VanCamp) legitimate ex-fiancé, however, does not make it. Aiden Mathis (Barry Sloane) is gone. Many fans have expected his death since new broke that he is starring in a new ABC series, called "The Whispers."

Revenge Season 3 finale spoilers revealed more than one major character dies in this season's last episode. True enough, a major "bad guy" dies, too. Conrad Grayson (Henry Czerny) is dead, which means the whole series is changed forever.

As if to balance the effect of two deaths, another major character, albeit in a different way, is pulled back from the dead. David Clarke (James Tupper) returns. Many fans who have long held in their theories that Amanda Clarke's father is alive cheered the resurrection. Others raised their eyebrows at what they called a poor decision.

Speaking to E! Online, Revenge showrunner Sunil Nayar said David Clarke is the show's "game changer" and "the best way to bring him back to the Hamptons is when we reintroduce him." Revenge Season 4 will see even more of the Father of TV Cons and Resurrections.

Explaining Aiden's death to The Hollywood Reporter, Nayar said Aiden's death was so "horrifying and devastating and allows the audience into the mindset of someone who wants revenge."

Considering the deaths of the real Emily Thorne, Declan Porter, and Aiden Mathis, David Clarke hiding all these years can only mean Amanda Clarke's dad is a ridiculously selfish monster. Perhaps he does not care about his own revengeda's collateral damage.

Perhaps David Clarke does not realize the damage done on his daughter is beyond repair. And now she has to avenge Aiden's (real) death in Revenge Season 4.
