Amazon has unveiled its first smartphone that offers 3D visual effects with the help of camera sensors and gesture controls. This unique 3D smartphone has lots of striking features that other phones do not offer. Readers who are interested in purchasing the Amazon Fire Phone or the Motorola Moto G, which got released in the last quarter of 2013 should check out this specifications and price comparison.

Display, Exterior and Size

The Moto G comes with a 4.5 inches IPS LCD display and it packs a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. Whereas the Amazon Fire Phone features a relatively bigger 4.7 inches IPS LCD display, but the screen resolution is same as the Moto G. The Amazon Fire Phone is capable of supporting up to 312 ppi of pixel density, which is slightly lower than the 326 ppi of Moto G.

The Moto G boasts sharp HD display that stretches from edge-to-edge to all corners of the handset. However, the handset has a plastic body, whereas the Fire Phone sports glass exterior and rubber-like corners to stave off damages caused by accidental fall. In addition, both the handsets come with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

The thickness and the weight of the Moto G are 0.46 inches and 143 g respectively, whereas the Amazon Fire Phone is 0.35 inches thick and it weighs 160 g.

Hardware and Software

The Motorola Moto G is powered by a solid quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400) Cortex-A7 processor, clocked at 1.2 GHz and it comes with a 1 GB of RAM. Whereas the Amazon Fire Phone is powered by a quad-core (Qualcomm Snapdragon 800) Krait 400 processor, clocked at 2.2 GHz and a good 2 GB of RAM. The Moto G runs on Android v4.3 Jelly Bean (upgradable to v4.4.2 KitKat), while the Amazon Fire Phone runs on a forked version of Android OS along with Amazon's Fire OS 3.5.


The Moto G sports a 5 MP rear-facing camera with LED Flash and a 1.3 MP front-facing camera. On the other hand, the Amazon Fire Phone features a whopping 13 MP rear-facing camera with LED Flash and a 2.1 MP front-facing camera unit.

More importantly, Amazon Fire Phone's 2.1 MP front-facing camera comes with "Dynamic Perspective" sensors. These sensors along with "invisible infrared" LEDs are used to locate the face (head) and eyes of the person in focus. This new sensor has the capability to even respond to the way a user holds, views and moves the phone. The Moto G comes with 8 GB or 16 GB of internal storage with no microSD slot for expansion. Meanwhile, the Amazon Fire Phone comes with 32 GB and 64 GB of internal storage with no microSD card support.


The Moto G houses a non-removable Li-Ion 2070 mAh battery unit, while the Amazon Fire Phone houses a non-removable Li-Ion 2400 mAh battery unit.

Amazon Fire Phone supports nano-sim, while the Moto G supports micro-sim. While the Moto G's other variants support dual-sim, the Amazon Fire Phone doesn't.


The Moto G comes with a black front panel but the back panel is customizable with seven different colour options. The Amazon Fire Phone comes in a variety of shades like black and cayenne (in premium leather), or black, cayenne, citron, blue, or royal (in durable polyurethane).


The Amazon Fire Phone supports NFC, while the Motorola Moto G doesn't. 


The Moto G 16 GB is priced at AU$299 in Australia. Amazon Fire Phone, on the other hand, is priced at US$199 (32 GB variant) and US$299 (64 GB variant) under AT&T contract in the U.S. The shipment of this 3D smartphone is expected to begin on July 25 in the U.S. Also, Amazon is giving away free Amazon Prime service for 12 months with this phone. Nevertheless, there is no information available on the availability of this 3D smartphone in other parts of the world at this point in time.
