The world has been caught in a web of frenzy following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI.

On March, within 15 or 20 days of the resignation, 117 cardinals who are younger than 80 and thereby eligible to vote would be summoned to Rome. The voting happens in the Sistine Chapel, where it would be held under tight and closely-guarded rules and traditions.

A new pope is expected to have been already elected before Easter Sunday on March 31.

Global media have come up with reports of various potential successors to the seat of Saint Peter the Apostle.

The following slideshow reveals some of the often-mentioned "papabili" or potential popes.
