Actor Robert Downey Jr announced on social media sites Facebook and Twitter last June that he was unemployed for two days. Speculations on his character Tony Stark or Iron Man being killed off in Avengers 2 and the release date for "Iron Man 4" getting canceled started to circulate online.
"Avengers: Age of Ultron" filming is still ongoing but the Breathecast report noted down that the two-day unemployment of "Iron Man" star Robert Downey Jr could mean the superhero character has a minor role in the movie sequel. With Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver added in the picture, the focus and story may now be on the new characters or the other members of the Avengers.
The 49-year-old actor also revealed that he has already finished filming his part in the Avengers 2 film. The announcements have ignited the speculations that fans might have to say goodbye to Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man in the movie sequel with the character getting killed off.
There is no official word yet from the actor or the Avengers team on the issue but the fans are worried that the speculation on Robert Downey Jr getting killed off in Avengers 2 will affect the upcoming "Iron Man 4" movie project. According to the Venture Capital Post report, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige declared in the Entertainment Weekly interview that the "Iron Man 4" film will still happen with or without actor Robert Downey Jr.
"I believe there will be a fourth Iron Man film and a fifth and a sixth and a 10th and a 20th. I see no reason why Tony Stark can't be as evergreen as James Bond, or Batman for that matter, or Spider-Man. I think Iron Man is a character just like that," Feige stated. Recasting of actors in superhero films has happened in the past so there is a possibility that it could happen again in Iron Man.
The report further noted how Superman, Batman and Spiderman had different actors portraying the characters, Terrence Howard got replaced in "Iron Man 2" with actor Don Cheadle and Marvel deciding to replace actor Edward Norton with Mark Ruffalo as Hulk in "The Avengers." If Robert Downey Jr will be replaced as Iron Man, actor Colin Farrell tops the survey on who will be the next Tony Stark or Iron Man in "Iron Man 4."
According to What Culture, the 38-year-old Irish actor has a strong resemblance to Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark "filling out a suit nicely and working a very similar hair style." The Web site further claimed that Colin Farrell proved in the film "In Bruges" that he is capable of quick-wit dialogues as good as how Robert Downey Jr has done it as Tony Stark or Iron Man.
