'The Giver' Trailer Released: Will it be Bigger Than 'Hunger Games' And 'Divergent?'

The movie adaptation of Lois Lowry's children's novel "The Giver" has finally released its trailer on March 19, starring Brenton Thwaites.

The sci-fi movie, which is a movie adaptation of a popular book, is known by its readers as set in a black and white world. The trailer was released in full color. Will it change when it hits the theaters or will it remain colorful? The fans have yet to watch out for that.

"The Giver" is a quintessential dystopian novel written by Lowry. It is a story about a young boy named Jonas who lives in a perfect world where there are no choices and everything is handed out. When he turns 12, he is singled out for a special assignment where he will be trained by the one called, "The Giver," played by Jeff Bridges. The Giver holds the true pain in life and Jonas is given the opportunity to learn the truth.

Odeya Rush, playing Fiona, will be Jonas' love interest. Katie Holmes and Alexander Skarsgard will be playing as Jonas' parents. Reports said the entire cast became close to each other while filming the movie in Cape Town, South Africa in 2013.

Also joining the cast is singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. This was not Swift's first time to appear in a movie, but this time she's working alongside Oscar-winning American actors Meryl Streep and Jeff Bridges.

The Giver trailer shows a glimpse of a brunette Swift. "I Knew You Were Trouble" singer was shown during a brief exchange of memories by the Giver and Receiver. Not much exposure, but the singer was flashed on the screen.

Swift will be playing Rosemary, a Receiver way back before Jonas, played by Brenton Thwaites, got his assignment and becomes the new Receiver.

Spark Notes said Swift's character fails her role as a Receiver when she wanted more painful memories other than the happy ones. It is now Jonas' role to take over and it is what the movie will tell. The story follows Jonas and his role as a Receiver.

According to MTV News, the new dystopian movie may be bigger than "Divergent" or even "Hunger Games," as "The Giver" is the real O.G. dystopian young adult story.

Will it be really bigger than "Hunger Games" and "Divergent?" The answer will be revealed on Aug. 15 when the Phillip Noyce-directed movie hits the theaters.
