"The Expendables 3," one of the much-awaited movies of this year, is slated to hit the big screens on August 4. But what could dampen the business of the film is its appalling torrent leak. Much recently a DVD-quality copy of "The Expendables 3" has appeared on piracy sites and has been downloaded more than 189,000 times as per the reports.
The leak of the film before its theatrical release is a rare event. However, now that this has happened it could incur some serious losses to the Sylvester Stallone starrer. Reportedly, the target audience of the film is young males and they are understood to be most active in sharing the files online.
Pirated copies of "The Expendables 3" surfaced on torrent sharing Web site on Wednesday and it's download plunged on Thursday, as reported by Variety.
The similar event happened back in 2009 when torrents of Century Fox's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" leaked on Megaupload.com. Following this event the Web site was shut down. Meanwhile, in regards to the film the lead of Stallone suggested that the third part is the best one to come from the brand's arsenal.
"This will be the best episode. We have a great director and a true star team. I have not seen a movie with so many stars. Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford, Wesley Snipes, Antonio Banderas, Jason Statham - the list is endless. We also have a new generation of stars - 21 to 22 years old. We have a world MMA Champion who does her own stunts. So viewers can expect from the new movie "The Expendables 3″ humor, dramatic moments, tension, but mostly surprises," said Stallone to Bulgarian Media.
The very first part of "Expendables" made $275 million worldwide whereas second part raked $300 million.
