EVGA Tegra Note 7 Makes it to Tech Web Site’s Top 10 Androids for 2014

Normally, whenever popular tech Web site ZDNET draws its top 10 list of devices - whether it's smartphones or tablets - the same brands dominate the list such as Apple, Samsung, HTC, Google and Sony.

However, for its review of the top 10 Android tablets for January 2014, there is a new kid on the block - the EVGA Tegra Note 7 - Nvidia forays into the tablet market.

Nvidia actually provided the reference design, while the hardware is from long-term business partner EVGA. ZDNET contributor Adrian Kingsley-Hughes, in his list, noted that EVGA gas done an excellent job of coming up with a quality tablet at a very competitive price.

To even make the device worth the consumer's precious dollars, a recent over-the-air software update added new features to the Tegra Note. The new features include always-on HDR photography.

Priced at $199, Tegra Note 7 runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean) and is powered by a 1.8GHz Tegra 4 processor complete with a 72-core Nvidia GeForce GPU. It features a 7-inch 1280x800 IPS screen and has a 5MP rear camera, VGA front camera, 16GB internal storage, MicroSD card slot and 4100mAh battery that offers 10 hours of HD video playback.

Here are the 9 other Android tablets on ZDNET's list for the first month of 2014:

  • Google Nexus 7 - The much-anticipated follow-up to the highly successful original Nexus 7
  • Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 edition) - Samsung's flagship tablet with a flagship price of $549
  • Asus Transformer Pad Infinity TF700T - The slimmest and lightest 1920x1200 resolution Full HD Android tablet on the market
  • Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8-inch - At $299, considered a bit pricey, but a good competitor to the iPad Mini for techies who are not into Apple devices
  • Google Nexus 10 - May, however, become an old device since Google is expected to announce a replacement for this gadget
  • Samsung Galaxy Mega - For people with large hands, pockets or bags
  • Amazon Kindle Fire HD - A testament to how serious Amazon is on disrupting the tablet market
  • Amazon Kindle Fire HDX - The latest addition to the Kindle Fire HD line-up.
