While the tech world was abuzz over the release of Windows 8, the event did not necessarily translate it better PC sales, reported NPD. After the initial four-week launch of the new OS, U.S. sales of Windows devices actually went down 21 per cent compared to the same period in 2011, notebook sales plummeted 24 per cent and desktop sales decreased 9 per cent.
However, NPD Vice President of Industry Analysis Stephen Baker said it is too early to blame Windows 8 for the current weakness in the PC market.
"We still have the whole holiday selling season ahead of us, but clearly Windows 8 did not prove to be the impetus for a sales turnaround some had hoped for," CNET quoted Mr Baker.
