"Breaking Bad" is trending worldwide, a day after AMC aired the series finale of the much-admired American crime drama. Dexter, like Breaking Bad, is a (supposedy) small cable TV series which hooked millions of fans with its antihero leads and contemporary themes. Fandoms, not paid media hype, made these shows larger than life. But when Dexter ended its 8-year run a week ago, many fans were quick to say the series didn't deserve the ending it got.

Just as the Breaking Bad finale was action-packed and gut-wrenching until the very end, Dexter was dull, dry and unconvincing -- especially the very end. The difference does not solely lie in the fact that Bad's Walter White (Bryan Cranston) died and Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) doesn't. A lot of fans agree that Bad was badass in storytelling and treatment until the end, while Dexter lost its magic.

To contrast, Breaking Bad ended after 5 seasons and 62 episodes. Dexter had 8 seasons and 96 episodes. If the latter had taken a bow before Hannah McKay "changed" Dexter, the reception would have been very different. Then again, it all boils down to the kind of storytelling showrunners wanted in the first place.

Kudos to creator Vince Gilligan and other 'Bad' showrunners Mark Johnson and Michelle MacLaren, as well as the actors and crew for a globally applauded series. Breakin Bad gathered 10 primetime Emmy Awards, including one for Outstanding Drama Series. Bryan Cranston won 'Outstanding Lead Actor' thrice (2008, 2009, 2010).
