Actress Rachel Weisz will reportedly step in as  Angelina Jolie's replacement in the film "Gravity" as Mrs. Brad Pitt had apparently decided to pass on the project. "Gravity" producers expressed interest in meeting Weisz for the role, according to  website aceshowbiz.com.

It is not yet clear if director Alfonso Cuaron is in talk with Weisz, nor is the actress' involvement in the film confirmed by an official statement from either party. Cuaron is now reported to cut the budget for the movie since Angelina Jolie will not star on "Gravity." 

Rachael Weisz is  certainly not a glitter less of a star compared to Jolie. Weisz starred in the box office The Mummy franchise and won an Oscar as Best Supporting Actress for her role in the Jean Le Carre's book adaptation "The Constant Gardener" opposite Ralph Fiennes.

But "Gravity" is a film whose success rest largely on the female lead. This is the main reason that Cuaron persistently pursued Angelina Jolie to star on it, as the Hollywood actress had proven herself as a box office draw in her most recent film, SALT.

Gravity focuses on a a female astronaut and her team leader stranded on  a remote space station, following a satellite's explosing that eliminated her other team members. The main highlight of the story is the female heroine's attempt to return home and be reunited with her child.

The plot is certainly interesting, and it was a surprise that Angelina Jolie had passed on the lead role. But then again, maybe not, as Jolie is scheduled to  direct her own movie set in Bosnia.   Rachel Weiz is deemed by many as a good choice for the role but Weiz camp is yet to make an official announcement on the British actress' involvement in the film.
