"Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" is almost two years away from its release date yet rumours about it are already going around. The rumour that has created quite a buzz among the fans and the media recently is that "Sherlock" star Benedict Cumberbatch is being eyed for the role in "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice." Moreover, he is also being considered for a role in another big superhero movie titled "Justice League." Read on to find out the details.

The 2013 "Man of Steel" sequel "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" brings together some of the elite Hollywood stars, such as Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman and Jesse Eisenberg as supervillain Lex Luthor, and the rumours swirling around suggest that Cumberbatch may join the cast of DC Comics superhero movie as a villain. According to BBC UK, the actor is being considered for an "evil" character in the "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice."
As for his role in "Justice League," there are talks that Cumberbatch is to be considered for the portrayal of the bald and green-skinned superhero, Martian Manhunter. In the comics, the Martian is an ally and a friend of Superman's, as well as part of the Justice League with Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Flash and Green Lantern.
The report notes that during the GQ Men of the Year Awards function, Cumberbatch was awarded the Best Actor award. Making the most of the opportunity, the reporters questioned the "Sherlock" actor about the "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League" casting rumours about him, and the actor was reportedly quite surprised.
"That's a fun one, I've not heard that one until tonight," Benedict Cumberbatch told BBC. However, he refused to deny the claims related to his role in "Justice League."
"I'm going to let that rumour run," the actor added.
Besides BBC's report, the rumour finds its origin in the speculative report by MoviePilot. The article gives a glimpse of Benedict Cumberbatch as Martian Manhunter. The report speculates that the star, praised for his portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, can be an "amazing detective."
"He also has to feel a bit alien in nature, which he also embodies as Sherlock with his otherworldly presence and intellect," the report by Mac Charalambous further speculates.
It is noted that Benedict Cumberbatch's "intriguing voice" can be an added advantage to his role in the "Justice League" movie.
However, this is not the first time the actor has been associated to superhero movie casting rumours. Besides "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" and "Justice League," there is gossip that Benedict Cumberbatch nabbed the leading character in the movie adaptation of "Doctor Strange."
