The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G and the Ascend P7 are doing well in the market, as both relatively cheaper Android smartphones have helped Huawei achieve a 62 percent year-on-year increase in phone shipments. The Shenzhen-based company attributed the good news to both phones in its H12014 report Tuesday. Here is a quick look into the specs of both smartphones.

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G Specs, Price

The Huawei Ascend Mate 2 is bigger than the Ascend P7 in screen size, at 6.1 inches. However, its screen resolution is only at 720 x 1280 pixels, for a 241 ppi pixel density. It has 13MP and 5MP cameras.

Like the more premium P7, the Ascend Mate 2 is a quad-core Android phone with 2GB of RAM and 16GB expandable storage. But its battery lasts longer, thanks to its less demanding display. (See more details on GSMArena.)

By ordering online, Android phone shoppers can get the unlocked Huawei Ascend Mate 2 for US$299.99. If bought within the promo period, buyers get the phone with free 20 GB Bitcasa storage. For more details, check out gethuawei.com.

Huawei Ascend P7 costs "£330 SIM-free in the UK and $479 in the US," according to The Independent.

Huawei shipped 20.6 million units of gadgets in the second quarter alone, PC World reported. Sales of these relatively cheaper Android phones spell real progress for Huawei, an analyst said.

"[Huawei is] making some progress, but they are still not anywhere near being a super top-tier player," Melissa Chau, an analyst, told PC World.

Huawei Ascend Mate 2 4G and the Ascend P7 are also for sale in various online retailers' shopping sites.
