Google will reportedly be releasing its Android 4.5 or 5.0 L platform this fall. Google already provided a preview of what people can expect from the new platform during its Google I/O Conference. According to recent reports, some of the devices first in line to receive the firmware upon official release include Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8, Sony Xperia Z2 and Moto X. What can people expect? Can Android L triumph over Apple's iOS 8?

An insight on what the Android L platform can offer devices should be helpful in deciding whether to upgrade to it or not. According to Android Police, there are several camera and interface enhancements that people can expect. Ars Technica also reported Chrome getting a Material Design treatment showing people the interface changes that are about to happen.

New Camera API

One of the standout features of the Android L will be its new camera API. The new API comes with a camera RAW-style image support including Digital Negative. Photography enthusiasts will be thrilled to find that the new Android platform has more support for such including preserving original image settings and information. It will work in the same way as DSLR cameras save images.

New Runtime

Beyond Dalvik, Google wants to switch to Android Runtime. This will offer smoother app function and loading. Battery consumption is also better managed. This time, users can permit apps to run through ART by changing the settings on their Developer Options. Some experts think that apps should operate with the new runtime following release of the official firmware.

OpenGL ES 3.1 Version

The upcoming Android L should also provide better video graphics support. Once applicable, the new feature should allow graphic processors to run even beyond non-graphical tasks. An example would be physics calculations. Devices should also be able to accomplish graphic-related tasks more efficiently.

According to Lawyer Herald, Samsung will be releasing a new Samsung Galaxy S5 Android L powered device plus tougher casing in 2015. Rollout of the Android L on the mentioned devices depends on the carrier and region. There are custom ROMs and updates offering a peak of what the Android L will be like but they require manual installation.
