Countless leaks have surfaced in the name of the iPhone 6 - the latest of which include a glowing Apple logo for notifications and an all-aluminum back panel. More importantly, the role of sapphire screen as a game changer is explained better with the promise of a September 26 release. Can Apple live up to the hype of the iPhone 6? Will it be the game changer that people hope it will be?
Apple's new iPhone 5S is displayed at an Apple shop in Tokyo's Ginza shopping district in this September 20, 2013 file photo.
Apple has secured a considerable amount of sapphire supply and production supporting its focus on changing the screen composition of its devices. According to The Street, if Apple can ensure the sapphire display on its iPhone 6 flagship then it can be a double-win for the company. The sapphire screen becomes more appealing with the big screen version because iPhone users have been meaning to get their hands on a larger device. Another reason why the sapphire will be ideal is for tactile appreciation and value sensation. According to the streets, when compared to the Gorilla Glass, the sapphire screen will offer a genuine "whole is more than the sum of the parts" effect.
In a report by Huffington Post, a new leak from uSwtich suggests that the iPhone 6 rear panel may be all-aluminum. The report claims the authenticity of the leak because of Sonny Dickson's claim as well. The iPhone 5s does feature aluminum back but it sports a thin strip of gorilla glass on the top and under the casing. The Apple logo on the back panel will also be a major differentiating factor between the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 5 series.
Compared to previous iPhone models, the logo on the iPhone 6 will be embedded within the aluminum instead of a plastic overlay. According to uSwitch, the upcoming Apple logo may also glow depending on the notifications. However, MacRumors challenged the information from uSwitch saying that Apple logo on the iPhone 6 may be created as so for a more appealing device. It may also serve more as a support for wireless signal when passing through the metal casing.
Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster believes a September release is possible but only at a later date. In his note, Munster said (via CNET): "We believe the guide suggests a launch on the last Friday of September (9/26) vs. our prior thinking of a 9/19 launch."
"This means Apple will only benefit from 5 days of iPhone 6 sales vs. 12 in our prior expectation."
