Air New Zealand Flies Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner

Air New Zealand will begin flying a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on August 9 2014 with its Auckland-Sydney route.
The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner will replace flights of the Boeing 767 or an Airbus A320.
Air New Zealand spokeswoman said that the Boeing 787-9 will first fly between Auckland and Sydney on August 9 - "all else being equal, this will be the first 'commercial' flight (of the Boeing 787-9)," the spokeswoman told Australian Business Traveller.
Air New Zealand's Boeing 787 programme director Kerry Reeves said that Boeing 787-9 will be flown for a middle of the day flight, a mid-morning departure from Auckland.
"We want want to fly this plane as soon as we're ready. We'll make a decision a few days out that we're ready to go, then we'll reload the booking system for the 787. Our target is to fly every day, although obviously with only one aircraft we'll have to take it out for checks at various times. Then we'll get to a point where we might try to do two daily returns with the aircraft. That will be about testing our metal as it were, but we want to make sure we're comfortable and we stress-test our own organisation to cope with tight 75 minute turnarounds," Reeves elaborated.
Reeves explained that these preliminary flights also serve the purpose of training the airline's crew to become adept with working on the Dreamliner.
The Dreamliner will be flying Auckland to Sydney at the end of Sydney and Auckland to Perth by October 15.
"We'll be in a position to fly between Auckland and Perth from October 15, that's our target and that's when we know we can guarantee the aircraft" Reeves said.
Eventually, it will be flying from Auckland to Shanghai and Tokyo as Air New Zealand waits for two more Dreamliners in September and October.
In 2015, Air New Zealand will be flying Boeing 787-9 to other destinations as there will be more Dreamliners coming in July, August and October; two more in 2016 and 2017 to complete the company's order of ten Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners.
Air New Zealand is proud to say that it is among the first six airlines that will commence flying Dreamliners for 2014.
