The Mac OS X Yosemite beta 2 is now available for download. Much like iOS betas, the Yosemite developer's preview isn't quite stable enough to use on daily drivers but Apple has squashed some bugs in the latest Mac OS with additional features mentioned in the WWDC 2014 keynote. Now, Apple finally included a darker version but it requires some digging around to get it.

A simple terminal command is necessary to enable the Mac OS X Yosemite beta 2 dark mode. Mac developer, Hamza Sood reveals the secret terminal command which goes:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences AppleInterfaceTheme Dark

After entering the command, you must press enter when you are required to log out and log back into your account on Mac. On the other hand, if you wish to undo the change to the menu bar and darker dock, simply input the command:

sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences AppleInterfaceTheme Light

Keep in mind that Apple did not tout this feature of the Mac OS X Yosemite beta 2 download and although it has been present in the latest beta, it is still in an unfinished form. It is possible that the Mac OS X Yosemite GM might include a dark mode that extends to the menu bar and dock, and even beyond the window chrome or other elements.

Meanwhile, at the WWDC 2014 keynote, Apple showcased a feature with the ability to work on a document and pick up where you left of on a different device nearby, which is called Handoff. Thus far, this interesting feature is included in the latest betas for each OS. Although the Handoff of is akin to the Dark Mode, it is not yet fully baked for the time being but it does not mean that you won't be able to test how it works. On supported devices, Handoff requires using Bluetooth 4.0 / LE.

As part of Continuity, Handoff performs better in transitioning from using your iPhone or iPad and vice versa but certain abilities are still missing. Nevertheless, these beta features will undoubtedly make iOS fans excited.
