Samsung Galaxy S3 Android 4.4 KitKat Release Guide: AT&T, Verizon and When to Hit Your Region

Samsung Galaxy S3 owners can stop worrying about the rollout of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update as major carriers in the US started releasing the firmware. AT&T has started rolling out the update to its S3 subscribers from June 18. Some users may receive the notification ahead or later. Verizon has also followed releasing the update in stages.

According to Samsung's official support page, AT&T subscribers and similar Galaxy S3 owners can expect the following changes and improvements from the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update: 

-Android OS Version upgraded to 4.4.2

-New Lock Screen Access including camera shortcut and media controls

-"Beat Music" Pre-loaded

-SMS App Chooser which allows users to choose the program to send and receive SMS text messages

-Expanded Emoji Icons

-Settings changes

-Bluetooth enhancements

-Immersive mode addition

-Keyboard enhancements 

The update also offers WiFi printing and Unified Location Menu among others. In order to install the update properly, subscribers are advised to charge their handsets fully. To update to the firmware, users can go to Menu > Settings > More > About Device> Software > Check for updates. There should be a download prompt showing the status of installation. To verify if the update has been installed, users must open Menu > Settings > More > About device. The Build Number and Baseband version should be indicated. 

According to Android Geeks, Verizon will start rolling out the Android 4.4.2 update to Samsung Galaxy S3 subscribers by the end of the month. The Android 4.4.2 update for Galaxy S3 under Verizon offers multi-window combination, multi-window tray for multiple applications, new Google+ User Locations widget, Photos by Google app in place of the Google+ Photos feature, Samsung Music 4×1, widgets for S Suggest and S Bookmark 1×1. Users can also expect more stable and better WiFi connectivity. There is also a significant tweak on the lock screen such as camera shortcut and new Media Player support.
