The brand new 'Razer Blade' 2014 laptop is projected as the epic gaming laptop ever. According to Mashable, this is a 'kickass desktop-level' laptop. In a nutshell, it comes with a killer display, thin clamshell design and it provides ultimate gaming experience.
This year's Razer Blade laptop is a good improvement from the last year version and it looks a lot similar to Apple's MacBook Pro Retina. Since this laptop is marketed as a gaming laptop, along with the stellar display, the speaker quality stands out with soft, high-quality audio that is highly treasured in any gaming environment.
Display, Design, and Exterior
The Razer Blade features a 14 inches touchscreen, with a killer IGXO 3,200 x 1,800 pixels display resolution. The Blade has a metallic body that looks sleek and feels solid at the same time, says CNet.
The laptop is 0.7 inches thick and it weighs only 4.47 pounds. The keyboard supports 'anti-ghosting' mechanism, which means, simultaneous keys strokes pressed together should register better than any other laptop. In addition, the laptop boasts glowing green keys on the keyboard and it also houses a glowing Razer logo on the back lid. Overall, the laptop provides a dazzling viewing experience.
Hardware, Software and Connectivity
The Razer Blade laptop is powered by a quad-core Intel Core i7 4702HQ processor, clocked at 2.2 GHz and it boasts a whopping 8 GB of RAM. In addition, it comes packed with NVIDIA GTX 870M with 3 GB of video RAM that enriches the gaming experience. The laptop runs on the latest Windows 8.1 and the touchscreen is very responsive.
Adding cherry on top, the Blade laptop supports 802.11ac Wi-Fi, which is touted as one of the fastest wireless technologies ever. In addition, it also supports three USB 3.0 ports, HDMI port and Bluetooth 4.0.
Battery and Camera
The 2013 model of Razer Blade provides 7 hours and 46 minutes in video playback battery drain test. However, the 2014 model lasted only for 4 hours and 27 minutes, says CNet. But according to Mashable, the Blade provides a good 6 hours of battery life when used for non-gaming work like word processing or internet browsing. In addition, the device comes with a 2 MP web camera.
Internal Storage and Price
The laptop comes in 3 variants 128 GB, 256 GB and 512 GB of memory. The aforementioned Razer Blade gaming laptops are priced at US$2,199, US$2,399, and US$2,699 respectively.
According to CNet, the Razer Blade 2014 is bundled with Nvidia GeForce GTX 870M GPU with 3 GB of DDR5 RAM and it provides stunning graphic display. The game 'BioShock Infinite' ran at 66fps at high graphics settings with UltraDX11 and at 98.5fps at medium graphics settings. The game 'Metro: Last Light' ran at 15.3fps. The games looked sharp in the display and the in-built speakers gave out clear yet powerful audio support. In addition, the Razer Blade comes with Synapse 2.0 support; this translates to providing support for saving game settings for keyboards and peripherals in the cloud.
CNet was quick to point out that, even though the gaming experience was phenomenal, the laptop became quite hot after 30 minutes of rigorous use. Although, it is a constant complaint from gaming laptop users across the globe, the heat from the chassis was quite tangible in this 2014 model, when compared to the 2013 model. In addition, the battery charge dropped quite faster.
What do you think of the gaming laptop? Is this laptop worth the thumping cost? Feel free to leave a comment.
