Two 12-year-old girls stabbed a friend (also 12) in Milwaukee suburb in Waukesha, Wisconsin on Saturday morning, May 31, 2014. They stabbed their friend 19 times after a slumber party. Girls lured their friend to accompany them into the woods where they committed the heinous crime. According to the reports, the girls have admitted to be planning the murder for months and that they did it for Slender Man.

Morgan Geyser and Anissa Weier are under arrest and are liable to 65 years of jail time if convicted, according to Mashable. The bail amount set on each child by court commissioner is $500,000 cash.

The girls told the police that they wanted to kill their friend to join the cult group of Slender Man, the fictional character they learnt about on creepypasta.wikia.com. The attempted murder has raised questions on the character that inspired young girls to perform such a horrifying act. Who is Slender Man? Here is some information about the character.

The Slender Man or Slenderman is a character who originated as an internet meme. He first appeared on June 8, 2009 and was created by Something Awful forums users Eric Knudsen with screen name Victor Surge. The creation was a part of contest that invited users to create supernatural images with the help of Photoshop.

In black and white images, Slender Man is depicted as extraordinarily tall, lean man. He is usually shown as a man with featureless face, wearing a black suit and a tie. Initially, Victor Surge submitted two black and white images for the contest. The images showed children being stalked by the creepy Slender Man. Pictures also consisted of text, giving the account of fictitious incident.

"'We didn't want to go, we didn't want to kill them, but its persistent silence and outstretched arms horrified and comforted us at the same time...' - 1983, photographer unknown, presumed dead," read the text on one of the images.

According to Know Your Meme, Victor Surge created more pictures. The meme gradually became popular and was being used by other users as well, to tell creepy stories. Slender Man became quite popular on the 4chan board, a famous imageboard Web site. The meme quickly went viral inspiring fanart and became the subject of discussions and scary stories on creepypasta.

The monstrous character also inspired a 3D puzzle adventure game created by Green Meteor Team. They presented their game featuring Slender Man as the main baddie of the series in the gaming competition by Web site 64Digits.
