Sony Xperia Z2 vs. Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Early Specs) — Features and Price Faceoff in Australia

The Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is one of the most awaited devices of this year with a rumored release date of September 3, 2014. According to credible tipster @evleaks (via IBTimes UK), the model number SM-N910, believed to be the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is headed to major U.S. network carriers like AT&T, Sprint and the U.S. Cellular. Notably, the SM-N900 model number refers to the predecessor Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which further confirms that the new SM-N910 model could very well be the Note 4.

The Sony Xperia Z2, on the other hand, is available in some parts of the world, while it is still unannounced in many other regions. In the case of Australia, the hadset can be pre-ordered from various e-commerce sites. Readers who prefer buying Xperia Z2 from network carriers can get a plan from Vodafone, Optus and Telstra

Display, Design and Exterior

The Sony Xperia Z2 has a 5.2 inches (IPS LCD) screen with 1,080 x 1,920 pixels resolution. Whereas the Note 4 will sport a bigger 5.7 inches screen with a superior 2K resolution support, that translates to 2,560 × 1,440 pixels resolution. It is worth noting that, the Note 4 was rumored to sport a whopping 5.9 inches screen, but according to recent leaks, the screen size will be 5.7 inches.

The Xperia Z2 weighs 163 g and it has a thickness of 0.32 inches whereas the specification for Note 4 is still not available. Nevertheless, the Galaxy Note 4 will feature a new 'form factor'. The panel is believed to feature a flexible glass with three-sided screen. According to reports, a three-sided YOUM display is a possibility; that translates to, having the left and right sides of the display bent in such a way that users will be able to view notifications on those sides.

Hardware, Software and Internal Storage           

The Sony Xperia Z2 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 (MSM8974AB) quad-core krait 400 processor, clocked at a 2.3 GHz. Whereas the Note 4 will be powered by either a Exynos Hexa or a Snapdragon 801 chipset. Both the phones are power-packed with 3 GB of RAM.

The Xperia Z2 features a 16 GB of internal storage that is expandable up to 128 GB using a microSD card, while the Note 4 is expected to support up to 128 GB of internal storage. Both the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 and the Sony Xperia Z2 run on Android v4.4 KitKat.

Camera

The Sony Xperia Z2 sports a whopping 20.7 MP rear-facing camera with LED flash and a 2 MP front-facing camera. According to Sony, the Xperia Z2 combines 4K video capture with a large 1.1 cm 20.7 MP Exmor RS for mobile image sensor, Sony's award-winning G Lens and the intelligent BIONZ for mobile image-processing engine. This killer combination makes the camera unit of Xperia Z2 bringing out the quality and performance as that of a real digital camera.

The Galaxy Note 4 will sport the same 20.7 MP camera as its primary unit and a 5 MP front-facing camera. If rumours were to be believed, the Note 4's camera would support 5K recording capabilities.

Battery

The Xperia Z2 houses a superior 3200 mAh battery unit which provides up to 19 hours of 3G talk-time and 740 hours of 3G stand-by time. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note 4 is expected to house a solid 3600 mAh battery unit.

Sim

Both the devices support micro-sim.

Color

The Xperia Z2 comes in black, white, and purple shades. The Note 4, on the other hand, is expected to come with 4 color options namely black, white, green and red, according to Note4galaxy.

Misc

The Xperia Z2 is dust and water resistant (IP 58 certified) and the Note 4 is expected to follow suit. In addition, the Galaxy Note 4 is expected to boast a much refined 'S-Pen Stylus' feature and is expected to blend seamlessly.

Price

The Sony Xperia Z2 with 4G LTE (16GB) is priced at AU$899.95 in Mobicity, while the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 is expected to be priced under US$800, which roughly translates to AU$860 in Australia.
