Apple has launched iPad Mini series for interested users in medium-sized screens.

The iPad Mini 2 is synonymous with the relatively bigger sized iPads in every aspect. But iPad Mini 2 sports the now popular Retina display which takes the user experience to the next level. Readers plan on buying Apple iPad Mini 2 or iPad Air, here are the specifications and price comparison for the devices.

Display And Size

Apple iPad Mini 2 is equipped with a relatively smaller 7.9-inch screen while iPad Air sports a bigger 9.7-inch screen. Both devices share the same aspect ratio of 4:3. Both iPads use the much touted Retina display technology and pack a solid resolution of 2,048 x 1,536 pixels. The difference comes in the form of pixel density. iPad Mini 2 has a better pixel strength of 324 ppi compared to Air's 264 ppi. The Air has the upperhand in brightness and contrast ratio with 1000:1 compared to iPad Mini 2's 792:1 ratio. The dimensions of Mini 2 are (7.87 x 5.30 x 0.30) inches and weighs much lesser than iPad Air at 341 grams, where the bigger iPad Air has the dimensions of (9.4 x 6.6 x 0.29) inches and weighs 469 grams.

Hardware And Software

Both devices are powered by a dual-core A7 processor chip with 64-bit architecture and M7 motion coprocessor, clocked at 1.3 GHz and come with 1 GB RAM. Also, iPad Air and iPad Mini 2 run on iOS 7.1, the latest OS version from Apple.

Memory

Mini 2 and the Air have built-in storage choice of 16/32/64/128 GB with no microSD slot support for expansion.

Camera

iPad Mini 2 and iPad Air feature a 5 MP rear-facing camera and 1.2 MP front-facing camera. Also, both devices support HDR, autofocus, digital image stabilization, face detection and 3x video zoom.

Battery

Apple iPad Mini 2 houses a non-removable 6471 mAh battery unit, while the bigger iPad Air houses a power-packed non-removable 8837 mAh battery, in accordance with the size of the device. Both devices give the same 10 hours of battery life with Wi-Fi switched on.

Connectivity

Both the devices support Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, 4G support and USB charging.

Sim

Both devices support Nano-Sim.

Color

Both devices come in gray and silver variants.

Price

Apple iPad Mini with Retina display 4G 32GB is priced at AU$739.95, while iPad Air 4G 32GB is priced at AU$819.95 in Australia.
