Australian post-paid mobile customers of carrier Optus can now charge their Google Play Store purchases to their Optus accounts. Online purchases need not be charged to credit cards as Optus has provided the convenience of this feature.
Optus is currently following suit to provide hassle-free purchases to its Android users who want to buy or download apps, music, games, TV shows, movies, eBooks, etc. Incorporating this online buys to carrier accounts or phone bills leaves customers need not worry on too many accounts to think about.
Some noted an individual will more likely pay for a service if it is easy to use. The probability of making online purchases is seen to be eight to 13 times more when users benefit from smooth and one-click payments. Video game players will not need to waste time on their next round of game, especially when they are on Candy Crush Saga and want to buy extra lives. Also, putting online buys to phone bills is one less use of credit card.
Ausdroid quoted Ben White, vice president of Optus mobile marketing, who said to further help its customers prevent shocking bills, Optus and Google put a limitation of $49.99 per transaction and $200 per month spending.
There is also a PIN for security and frauds, plus protection for accidental buys or a 15-minute window for cancellation in case the customer changes his mind, White added.
Enabling the service can be done in the individual's Google Play settings on his Android smartphone or tablet, where he has to do a one-time registration and validation process that only take minutes. The person is then ready to purchase any content on Google Play Store, in-app purchases included.
Google Play Store charges will be listed in detail in the monthly Optus bill. This service feature will be available this week. But it is not clear though if Optus subsidiary Virgin Mobile will be offering the same service to its customers.
