The company will check the proportioning valve of both the cars, which adjusts the brake pressure to the wheels of the car. A total of 15,623 units of non-ABS variants of Brio and 15,603 units of non-ABS variants of Amaze (petrol) have been recalled, which were manufactured from 28 February 2013 to 16 January 2014.

The owners of the defective vehicles will be contacted directly and the company would carry out the replacement and the inspection free of cost.

"There is a possibility that in some of these cars there is mis-assembly of the proportioning valve. However, no complaint related to this part has been reported. HCIL will voluntarily replace the proportioning valve after inspection, if required," the company said in a press release.

Customers can visit the company's official website (www.hondacarindia.com) to check if their models also have been affected by entering the 17 character alpha-numeric Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Honda's Brio and Amaze are best selling models in the country. It is not clear whether the recall will affect the sales of the vehicles in the domestic market.

Earlier last month, Maruti Suzuki, the country's largest car maker also issued a voluntary recall of 1,03,311 units of Ertiga, Swift and DZire in India to fix a problem with the fuel filler neck. In one of  the largest recalls announced by any auto maker in India, Maruti had recalled 47,237 units of its popular hatch back Swift, 42,481 units of its sedan DZire and 13,593 units of its multi-passenger vehicle Ertiga.
