At Acer's Press Conference in New York, the company unveiled Acer Iconia Tab 7 which is a premium 7 inches tablet. The unique selling point of this tablet is its cellular connectivity feature.
Readers who are looking for an Android mobile device that packs the capability of a tablet then Acer's Iconia Tab 7 is worth considering. This budgeted tablet is aimed at the price conscious segment.
Design & Display
Acer Iconia Tab 7 comes with an anodized silver colored premium body. The tablet has a 7 inches screen with a display resolution of 1,280 x 800 pixels. According to PhoneArena, although the tablet looks premium, the IPS display on the tablet is not very impressive. Nevertheless, it is quite bright and the wide angle views are good enough.
Hardware & Software
The Acer Iconia Tab 7 runs on stock Android 4.4 KitKat and the customization is kept minimal. There are two different modes in the tablet; there's a basic mode (restrictive) which gives access only to a couple of entities in the homescreen whereas the senior mode provides huge icons which makes the navigation easier and quicker. It is worth noting again that this tablet can be used to make phone calls (onboard 3G support).
The tablet is powered by a quad-core Media Tek MT8382 processor, clocked at 1.3GHz with 1GB of RAM.
The Acer Iconia Tab 7 features an 8GB or 16GB of internal storage. In addition, the tablet supports microSD card slot for additional storage capacity.
The Acer Iconia Tab 7 houses a 5 MP rear facing camera unit that juts out slightly from the exterior. On the other hand, the tablet has a 0.3 MP front facing camera unit.
Although we do not have the battery configuration details as yet, according to Acer, the tablet is capable of providing six hours of battery life.
The Tab 7 is priced at 1,990 MX Pesos (Latin America Zone) while the same tablet will cost €149 in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. That roughly translates to US$206 and AU$222.
The Acer Iconia Tab 7 will launch by the end of June in Latin America and in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. There is no information on the US/AUS release date at present.
