Android v4.4.2 KitKat Update Released to Samsung Galaxy Note 2 in India: Report

After releasing KitKat update to Galaxy Note 2 in France, Samsung has reportedly begun rolling out the latest Android software to the Indian phablet variant as well.

The news was disclosed by the XDA developer forum members today (2 May). The new KitKat update is 416MB in size and is available via OTA (Over-The-Air) and PC suite for manual downloading.

Galaxy Note 2 Owners can check for updates on the phone:

Go to Apps >> click Settings >> tap More >> scroll down to About device >> check Android version and build number

One of the XDA developer forum member going by the moniker- 'HuzefaChalla' has posted the screen shot of the new update downloading on his Galaxy Note 2 phone. [To view the image, click here].

[Note: Smartphone owners are advised to download firmware via Wi-Fi to avoid data traffic and also to cut the toll on the heavy data plan bill]

The changelog of Android KitKat for Galaxy Note 2 is yet to be released by the company, but going by updates received in other Galaxy devices (Note 3 and S4), users can expect to get enhancements in KNOX security app, as well as performance and battery efficiency.

Besides these usual improvements, KitKat OS will also bring in new default messaging app option - Hangouts (where all SMS, Audio, video chats can now be grouped under one roof), new visually enhanced white notifications status bar, Camera shortcut icon now can be relocated to the lock-screen for easy access, wireless printing (in select HP printers), Japanese Emoji characters for enriching the texting experience and many more.

In related news, Samsung has also released the new Android firmware to Galaxy S3 in USA. As of now, only Sprint model is the only device getting the update. Others network carriers are also expected to follow suit soon.
