Motorola Moto G vs. Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini—Specs and Price Comparison in Australia

Motorola packs high performance, spectacular features and an impressive price range in Moto G, which was released in the last quarter of 2013. On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini got released in the last quarter of 2012. The price range for both phones is almost similar. They also share some common specifications.
The Moto G has a 4.5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, with a resolution of 720 x 1,280 pixels. The Galaxy S3 Mini, on the other hand, comes with a much smaller screen size of 4.0 inches with 480 x 800 pixel resolution. The thickness and weight of Moto G are 0.46 inches and 143 g, respectively. Meanwhile, the Galaxy S3 Mini is 0.39 inches thick and weighs lesser than the Moto G at 120 g.
Hardware and Software
The Motorola Moto G is powered by a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor (Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 chipset) clocked at 1.2 GHz. It comes with 1 GB RAM. On the other hand, the Galaxy S3 Mini is powered by a dual-core processor (STE U8420 chipset), clocked at 1.0 GHz. It comes with 1GB RAM.
The Moto G runs on Android v4.3 Jelly Bean, upgradable to v4.4.2 KitKat. Meanwhile, the S3 Mini runs on Android (4.1.2 and 4.1.1). Because the Galaxy S3 Mini is nearly 2 years old, future upgrades are doubtful.
Both the Moto G and the Galaxy S3 Mini sport a 5-MP (LED flash) rear-facing camera. The difference between the two devices is in the front-facing camera. The Moto G is equipped with a 1.3-MP, front-facing camera, while the S3 Mini offers only a 0.3-MP VGA camera in the front.
The Moto G comes with 8/16 GB of internal storage with no microSD slot for expansion. The Galaxy S3 Mini offers 8/16GB of internal storage. In addition, the S3 Mini supports microSD card for expansion up to 32 GB.
The Moto G houses a good-enough non-removable Li-ion 2,070 mAh battery. The Galaxy S3 Mini houses a 1,500 mAh battery unit.
The Moto G supports micro-SIM, while the Galaxy S3 Mini supports mini-SIM.
The Moto G comes with a black front panel, while the back panel is customisable with seven different colour options. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini comes with blue, white, grey, black, brown and red colour options.
The Moto G 8 GB is priced at around AU$269.95, while the Galaxy S3 Mini 8 GB can be purchased at about AU$249.95 in Australia.
