New Delhi-based consumer electronics firm Intex has launched a budget phone, dubbed Aqua Qwerty, in India.

Intex's new phone is ergonomically designed, keeping 45-plus age group in mind, for pro-physical-keypad fans who like to press the characters, rather than touch-type. The Aqua Qwerty comes with a keyboard, quite similar to the expensive BlackBerry handsets, and also boasts touch-sensitive screen above the keypad, providing dual functionality options for users.

The 3.5-inch Intex Aqua Qwerty is priced at just ₹4,990 and comes equipped with 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, Android v4.2.2 Jelly Bean OS, 512MB RAM, 4GB inbuilt memory (expandable up to 32GB), a 5.0-megapixel main camera, a 0.3-megapixel (VGA) camera and a 1500 mAh battery.

The new Intex phone will be competing with HTC Desire 210 dual, Samsung Galaxy Star, Nokia Asha 501, popular Micromax Bolt series budget handsets, and numerous other domestic branded devices.

"Intex has always been at the forefront in bringing innovative products to its customers.  Aqua Qwerty is one such product which offers the convenience of both touch and type features for users who are Qwerty lovers but wish to explore the touch experience at the same time," said Sanjay Kumar Kalirona, Business Head - Mobile, Intex.

"We have stepped into the qwerty keypad smartphone segment after a lot of market research, and we believe that the Aqua Qwerty will be a vehicle of smartphone adoption in the highly untapped segment of women smartphone users in India, also meeting the needs of professionals who want to send error-free texts, without stressing too much on switching the keypad between signs, symbols, numbers and alphabets" he added.
