The Samsung Galaxy S3 was released in the year 2012, followed by the Samsung Galaxy S4 in 2013. Both the handsets turned out to be a popular and a worthy choice. For readers who are planning on buying either a Galaxy S4 or a Galaxy S3, here is the specification and price comparison in Australia.
Display, Weight & Thickness
The Samsung Galaxy S3 comes with a 4.8 inches screen, while the Galaxy S4 has a better design and a slightly bigger 5 inches screen. The Galaxy S4 screen has a higher resolution of 1080 x 1920 pixels with natural and vibrant colors, while the S3 screen has a resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels.
Both phones use the same basic panel technology 'Super AMOLED' (capacitive touchscreen). The Galaxy S3 weighs 133 g, while the S4 weighs 130 g. The S4 has a thickness of 0.31 inches whereas the S3 has a thickness of 0.34 inches.
Hardware & Software
Galaxy S4 has 2 different processor versions, a quad-core cortex-A15 processor clocked at 1.6 GHz & a quad-core Cortex-A7 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, while Galaxy S3 comes with a Quad-core Cortex-A9 processor clocked at 1.4 GHz.
The Galaxy S4 runs on Android v4.2.2 compared to the v4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) version of the S3 but both the phones use the TouchWiz UI of Samsung. Both the phones are upgradable to higher Android versions. In addition, the Galaxy S4 features Smart Pause, Smart Scroll, and Air Gesture, among others. Nevertheless, the messaging keys are relatively smaller than those in the Galaxy S3.
Galaxy S4 sports a superior camera specification with a whopping 13 MP (LED Flash) rear facing camera and a 2 MP front facing camera. Whereas the S3 houses an 8 MP rear facing camera and a 1.9 MP (LED Flash) front facing camera. The S4 features a Dual Shot option that can compile videos by using both front and rear cameras. The S4 has additional features like cinema photos and story album.
The Galaxy S3 has a built-in storage of 16/32/64 GB (microSD support for expansion) with 1 GB of RAM, while Galaxy S4 shares the same built-in storage but the RAM is increased to 2 GB.
As expected, the Galaxy S4 packs a better battery specification than S3 with 2600 mAh battery while Galaxy S3 comes with a 2100 mAh battery.
Both the phones support Micro-Sim but there is no Dual-Sim option.
The Galaxy S4 comes in black, white, blue, red, brown and grey shades. But not all the shades are widely available. The Galaxy S3 comes in black, blue, white, red, grey and brown shades.
Samsung Galaxy S4 with LTE 16 GB is priced at AU $499.95 while Samsung Galaxy S3 with 16 GB can be purchased at AU $339.95.
