The fantasy, romantic entertainer has turned out to be Sivakarthikeyan's biggest opener so far. The film has reportedly grossed around ₹12 crore in its first weekend at the TN box office, surpassing the opening weekend collections of Siva's last release "Varuthapadatha Vaalibar Sangam" by up to 30 percent, according to Behindwoods website.
"Maan Karate" released on 4 April amid huge expectations from fans. Although the film received mixed reviews from critics, it opened to a fantastic response in its first weekend.
The Siva starrer has kicked off the summer season in a grand manner by performing exceptionally well at the box office. The film has also done good business in Chennai and is estimated to have grossed ₹1.41 crore in its opening weekend at the city's box office. It has reportedly grossed one of the best ever openings in the city.
The Thirukumaran directorial witnessed average theatre occupancy of 90 percent in Chennai during the opening weekend. It has taken the top slot much ahead of other recently-released films.
If "Maan Karate" continues its good run, it could well be another hit in Sivakarthikeyan's cap. The actor is on a roll following back-to-back successful films. Last year, three films of the actor turned out to be big hits.
"Maan Karate" is the first release of 2014 for the actor and he has started the year with a bang. While the romantic comedy entertainer has performed well in its opening weekend, it remains to be seen as to how the film fares in the weekdays.
