For last couple of years, local players led by Micromax took lead in the burgeoning smartphone market in India by offering low-cost handsets with high-end specifications taking a huge chunk out of MNC brand market share.

However, this year international brands, especially Motorola after a year-and-half hiatus has made a strong come-back with the launch of Moto G in February. Apart from this, HTC, Sony and Lenovo too have launched feature-rich mid-range phones with competitive price tag to give stiff challenge to domestic smartphone vendors.

The main advantage of MNC branded phones over local devices is that the user can be assured of good after-sale services, except Motorola which is limited to tier-one cities, but going forward, the company is expected to establish more service centres in tier-2 cities after getting acquired by Lenovo soon.

Prospective consumers who are planning to buy a new MNC branded phones can look in to the new devices - Moto G, HTC Desire 310, Sony Xperia E1 Dual and Lenovo A526, which pack decent specifications for low price tag.

Here is Brief Description of Stand-out Features of Motorola Moto G, HTC Desire 310, Lenovo A526 and Sony Xperia E1:

Display:

First up, Motorola Moto G flaunts a 4.5-inch HD (1280x720p) screen with pixel density of 329 ppi (pixels per inch).

[Note: It also boasts nano-coating on the phone enabling users to take/answer calls even in rain. However, it cannot really be taken for dip in the pool]

HTC Desire 310 and the new Lenovo A526 sports same 4.5-inb FWVGA (480x854p) display with pixel density close to 218 ppi (pixels per inch), and Sony Xperia E1 dual is the smallest among the rivals featuring a 4.0-inch WVGA (800x480p) TFT LCD screen.

Processor, RAM, Storage Capacity:

Motorola and Sony run on Snapdragon chipsets manufactured by the industry leader Qualcomm, but differ in CPU types. Moto G is powered by Snapdragon 400 series 1.2GHz quad-core processor, whereas Xperia E1 dual ships with 1.2GHz dual-core processor.

On the other hand, probably to keep the costs under check, HTC and Lenovo have used Taiwanese based MediaTek silicon chip - 1.3GHz Quad-core Cortex A7, like we see inside the low-cost local branded phones.

Sony handset boasts of sumptuous 1GB RAM, whereas Xperia E1 dual comes with 512MB RAM.

In terms of storage, HTC Desire 310, Lenovo A526 and Xperia E1 dual come with 4GB in built memory with options of expansion up to 32GB. Moto G comes in two variants - 8GB and 16GB, but the only downside is it does not feature microSD card slot.

Mobile Operating System Software:

In this aspect, all four smartphones stand even as they run on the same ubiquitous Android platform; only difference among them is that they ship with different versions. User need not get deterred by this difference as they can still plays games and apps available in the market.

One advantage of having the latest software is that, it will provide more security features, performance enhancing tweaks and user-interface optimizations.

Camera:

Motorola boasts of 5.0-megapixel camera with LED flash on the rear-side and a 1.3-megapixel camera on the front side.

On the other hand, HTC and Lenovo smartphones too pack a 5.0-megapixel main camera, but misses out on LED flash support. They house 0.3-megapixel VGA snapper on the front.

Being the cheapest among the rivals, Sony Xperia E1 dual features a 3.0-megapixel camera on the rear-side and a 0.3-megapixel front-facing camera.
