Hugh Jackman has played both Jean Valjean from “Les Miserables” and Wolverine of “X-Men,” but it seems that he has mixed the two roles together. The Australian actor drew laughs after performing “Wolverine: The Musical” during his BBC radio appearance on Saturday.
The 45-year-old gave an impromptu performance of “Who Am I,” which he sang as Jean Valjean in the 2012 film adaptation of the musical, during his appearance on “The Matt Edmondson Show.”
However, instead of the original dramatic version, he performed a spoof, singing as Wolverine.
The parody version was written by the BBC staff, and includes lyrics that make fun of his fitness routine as Hugh Jackman.
The lyrics of the song were posted by Jackman on his Instagram page, and read:
“Who am I? Am I a superhero with some claws? Or just an actor searching for applause? Wolverine has all the fans, but what about me Hugh Jackman?
“Who am I? I play the wolf man, yes it’s quite the task. In X-Men days of future past I’m at the gym doing weights each day. Hugh has got to look buff they say.
“Must I lie? I can not eat this ice cream anymore. I need a body people can adore. I gave up junk food that I know. I made that bargain long ago. All my snacks and crisps they’re gone. Now this wolv-er-ine can go on.”
Jackman started out with a serious note, but ended up laughing when he wasn’t able to reach the high note.
He was nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Award and won Best Actor at the Golden Globe Award for his role in “Les Miserables.”
He famously played the mutant Wolverine in 2000 in “X-Men,” and reprised the role in the film’s sequels “X2” (2003) and “X-Men: The Last Stand” (2006), and in the prequel “X-Men: First Class.” He received top billing for “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” (2009) and “The Wolverine” (2013), and is set to play the said role again for “X-Men: Days of Future Past,” which will be released in May.
