Speculations on the release date of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 have gained prominence following the unveiling of its flagship smartphone, Galaxy S5 last month. The fourth generation phablet is expected to be unveiled in September with at least five upgrades over its predecessor, Galaxy Note 3, which was released last year.

Samsung has not revealed the release date of Galaxy Note 4 yet, but several reports suggested that it would make an appearance in September. The speculation could turn into reality, as Galaxy Note 3 was released in the same month last year.

Galaxy Note 4 is expected to have several upgrades over its predecessor and here are a few of them:

1. Display: Galaxy Note 3 sports a 5.7-inch full HD (1920x1080p) Super AMOLED screen with pixel density close to 388 ppi (pixels per inch) and has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection, while its successor is expected to have 5.9-inch or 6-inch screen display. It is reported that the device will sport a 2K display.

2. Processor: Galaxy Note 4 is expected to be powered by a 64-bit processor, while its predecessor has 2.3GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor. However, the 3G variant of Galaxy Note 3 is powered by Exynos 5420 Octa-core chipset (with two quad-core processors - one A9 with 1.9GHz and another A7 with 1.3GHz CPU speed).

3. Operating System: Galaxy Note 4 is expected to run on Android 4.5 Lollypop, a new OS to be released by Google this year, while its predecessor runs on Android 4.3 (Jelly Bean).

4. Camera: Samsung Galaxy Note 3 has 13.0-megapixel camera (main) with BSI sensor, auto-focus and LED flash (High CRI), and 2.0-megapixel front camera with BSI sensor, full HD 1080p video recording. Galaxy Note 4 is expected to come with a better camera, probably an increase in megapixel as seen in Galaxy S5, which has 16 MP camera.

5. Water and Dust Resistant: Galaxy Note 3 screen has Gorilla Glass 3 protection, while its successor is expected to have features like water and dust resistant, and fingerprint sensor as seen in recently launched flagship smartphone Galaxy S5.
