Screen Differences

In theory, Xperia Z2 can display images without getting distortion in various angles contrast to TFT screens. Super LCD 3 on One M8 allows it to be easily viewed under bright lights or direct sunlight. Galaxy S5 uses Super AMOLED which greatly saves battery if displaying black or darker images compared to other screens.

However, Super AMOLED and Super LCD 3 are two most advanced in display technology used among mobile devices due to power saving and backlighting.

Performance and Multitasking

Xperia Z2 features 1 GB larger memory compared to One M8 and Galaxy S5 but, HTC One M8 performs pretty well according to Basemark X in terms of graphics rendering and overall processing.

All three uses Adreno 330 and runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat yet differs in user interface. HTC Sense 6.0 for One M8 with BlinkFeed social app, TouchWiz UI for Galaxy S5 with updated Galaxy S services and Xperia Home UI for Xperia Z2 with access to Sony multimedia services.

Camera

Unfortunately, none of them is near perfect to match a professional camera but all three boasts significant features. HTC One M8 uses dual rear camera lens and "ultrapixel" technology to accurately get details during captures. Samsung Galaxy S5 boasts ISOCELL sensor and the fastest auto-focus to capture details in a second while Sony Xperia Z2 features new camera modes such as Timeshift video for slow-motion recording.

Protection

Only Samsung and Sony bothered to include dust and water resistances on their flagship devices. HTC One M8 doesn't have any IP certification but it is made up of aluminium unlike Galaxy S5 with plastic.

For the display, Xperia Z2 sports a shatter proof and scratch resistance glass while HTC and Samsung used Corning Gorilla Glass for One M8 and Galaxy S5, respectively.

Multimedia Experience

In some cases, it is great to hear your favourite songs via speakers which HTC and Sony focused on. HTC One M8 uses BoomSound and Beats Audio enhancement for headphones and dual front speakers while Sony Xperia Z2 boasts five different sound engines such as digital noise cancellation for the headphones and dual front speakers.

Galaxy S5 may not match the two in audio output but has more to offer in terms of lifestyle apps such as S Health and built-in heart rate monitor.

Ultimate Power

Xperia Z2 has the largest battery capacity with 3200 mAh compared to the 2600 mAh on One M8 and 2800 mAh on Galaxy S5. Battery life depends on how good the software has been optimised to the hardware and how the modifications appeal on power consumption.

In technical point of view, Xperia Z2 should outlast One M8 and Galaxy S5 using the 3200 mAh battery and STAMINA mode feature. Galaxy S5 should sustain longer hours compared to S4 with Ultra Power Saving mode and One M8's confident 2600 mAh should last within a day without getting drained from various background services.

HTC One M8 is already out in the market while Galaxy S5 and Xperia Z2 are expected to be released next month.
