Porn Studies, launched on 21 March is the new journal published by Routledge and is the first dedicated, international, peer-reviewed journal to critically explore those cultural products and services designated as pornographic, according to Routledge's London-based publisher, wrote in one of its papers issued in August 2013.

Public has a free access to the journal for a limited time, so interested people can read the papers in the inaugural issue, said Routledge.

The first edition has papers titled "Psychology and pornography: some reflections" and "Gonzo, trannys, and teens - current trends in U.S. adult content production, distribution and consumption."

Pornography is still in its formative years and the new journal hopes to focus on developing knowledge of pornographies past and present, in all their variations and around the world, according to the journal's editor.

"The accumulation of categories does not separate fantasies from each other, but permits flow from one fantasy to another and draws thousands of paths corresponding to more and more precise desires," the researchers said.

Pornography may seem a strange prospect for research, but it's also an influential and large business. Economists in 2002 have estimated that in San Fernando Valley, the porn business is worth $4 billion, as reported by 2012 Los Angeles Times.

"Web-based pornographic clips and live-streamed interactive shows are increasingly getting popular," Times of India quoted Chauntelle Anne Tibbals, Los Angeles-based independent scholar.

Though pornography has received criticisms for number of ills, some researchers state that the evidence related to benefits and harms of pornography is controversial. Also a little is known about the consequence of fame received by pornography performers.
