Hailing from two story-telling extraordinaire nations, Thursday's match between Afghanistan and Nepal will decide who has a more interesting one to share back home.

Afghanistan cricket rose from the dusty war fields of Kabul to become the only sport in the country to be played professionally. It is an exceptional story of cricketers turned stars - not overnight but with calculated hard work followed by some sweet success. They have become the window to represent the nation in a different dynamic.

Nepal too, has seen its cricket stars reach heights while the happy masses hold their players high like a personal piece of trophy handed specially to them. This success story comes with hardly any infrastructural progress to boast of.

The 2014 ICC World T20 becomes very important in the narratives of these two cricketing nations. Both teams are virtually out of the tournament, but what they play for on Thrusday is more than just pride. It's to create a story worth telling.

Afghanistan beat Nepal hands down in last year's World T20 qualifiers and now it remains to see how they face each other knowing very well the strengths and weaknesses of their oppositions. The captains - Paras Khadka and Mohammad Nabi - will be the key players.

The Afghans look to set all guns blazing with their fast-bowling while Nepal expect their top order batsmen to fire. Nepal's coach Pubudu Dassanayake said his team has the technique needed to play top-class cricket. "Looking at Nepal, the national team and the youngsters, they're very sound technically," he said. "The most important part is that they train very hard and play very hard. That is what we are, our brand of cricket."

The Afghanistan coach Kabir Khan too believed in his team's ability and quality at this level of cricket. "We have good-quality fast bowlers, we train them like that, they are aggressive and everybody knows that our fast-bowling attack is very good, especially at Associate standard."
