Real Madrid will look to put the finishing touches to the tie against Schalke in the last 16 of the Champions League, before turning their attentions to the big match at the weekend - the El Clasico against Barcelona.

A 6-1 victory in German secured in the first leg, courtesy a brace each from Karim Benzema, Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo, has pretty much made the second leg at the Bernabeu on Tuesday academic.

However, Carlo Ancelotti's men will be keen to maintain their winning momentum ahead of one of their biggest matches of the season.

"The team is fine, and playing well against Schalke is the best way to prepare for the Clasico," said Ancelotti, who has seen his team rise to the La Liga and get to the brink of making the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

"In the Liga, we have a small lead, but it's different in the UEFA Champions League or Copa Del Rey. We have to play a good game tomorrow [Tuesday] because it's an important UEFA Champions League match and we must keep our good form going. We have to respect our work, the competition and our opponents."

For Schalke this game will be about keeping their pride intact after being hammered in front of their own fans three weeks ago. Manager Jens Keller believes the second leg provides a good platform for his players, particularly the youngsters, to show they belong at the highest level.

"We have a young team and this match can be a good experience," Keller said. "We have to do better than in the home game. We must be more compact and not let our opponents grow. We are going to try to do our best.

"Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are the strongest teams in the world. Bayer Leverkusen played bravely against PSG in Paris and we want to do the same. We must be realistic -- Real Madrid are an amazing team and when you lose 6-1 in the first leg it is not easy to reach the quarterfinals."

Team news: Real Madrid: Ancelotti confirmed he would rest several of his key players, while Benzema is ruled out with a slight knee problem.

"We will make some changes because Saturday's match was hard work and we have to recover properly," Ancelotti said. "Some players will be tired tomorrow and will therefore not play.

"[Benzema] can't play tomorrow, but he is recovering and we are confident that he will be back for Sunday [against Barcelona]. He is a very important player, as he is playing very well but he picked up a knock and we are going to wait for him to recover. We are lucky to be able to replace him if he can't play."

Ancelotti also revealed Jese Rodriguez and Alvaro Morata would start up front with Ronaldo, while Isco is likely to be given a chance to impress in midfield.

Schalke: Christian Fuchs is definitely ruled out while Felipe Santana and Jefferson Farfan are also expected to miss the second leg, with Keller looking to give some of his young players an opportunity.
