"Bewakoofiyaan", starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Sonam Kapoor, had a poor first weekend at the domestic box office.

The romantic comedy was expected to show an upward trend in its earnings at the weekend, considering the word of mouth, but failed to do so.

Being a solo release and that to under the Yash Raj banner, "Bewakoofiyaan" has turned out to be a disappointment.

The film raked in only around ₹7 crore in its first weekend theatrical run from Indian markets.

Kanagana Ranaut's "Queen", which was released a week prior to "Bewakoofiyaan", has affected the business of the latter badly in the domestic market.

"Queen" dominated over all the releases, including the Ayushmann-Sonam starrer.

The pre-holi period is generally considered dull for the business of films. Also the release of "Bewakoofiyaan" coincided with the board exams of 10th and 12th standard and hence its weekend business remained minimalist.

Even the promotions were low and the buzz was clearly missing. "Nonetheless, what works for BEWAKOOFIYAAN is its controlled economics," Bollywood Hungama reported.

The film was made on a budget of around ₹22 crore, including printing and advertising. The makers have already earned a major chunk of the money from satellite rights. The rest of the amount will be recovered from domestic and overseas box office run, audio and video rights.

Though the makers will earn the production cost, the film has turned out to be a disaster at the box office. The film will face a hard time after its first week run, since more than three films are releasing this week, including "Ragini MMS 2".
