Samsung Galaxy S5 was launched on 24 February, ending months of anticipation but the phone's features have not lived up to the expectations, with some of the rumored specifications missing from the device. And now, Apple Inc. can learn a lesson from this experience of its archrival when it releases its new flagship smartphone iPhone 6.

Apple has remained tightlipped on its new flagship smartphone iPhone 6, and may not reveal anything about it till the time of its launch. But several reports, speculating on its release date, have surfaced. GT Advanced Technologies Inc, which supplies sapphire to Apple, said in its earnings report that a major chunk of it will come towards the second half of 2014, hinting that iPhone would have a late launch.

With Samsung Galaxy S5 failing to meet the expectations of gadget lovers, with the rumored features like processor and display resolution not featuring in the device, all eyes will be on iPhone 6, which is expected to see the light of the day towards the second half of the year.

According to Patently Apple, the US Patent & Trademark Office published a patent application from Apple titled "Systems and Methods for Preventing Light Guide Plate Scratching Artifacts". This would mean iPhone 6 may sport a screen layer protection that will be self-healing, hinting a possible elimination of unsightly artifacts.

iPhone 6 is expected to have a screen entirely made from the scratch-resistant sapphire crystal glass, unlike in its predecessors, where the material was used in Home button and iSight camera. The material is almost unbreakable and second only to diamond in hardness.

According to South Korean brokerage KDB Daewoo Securities, iPhone 6 is expected to sport a 4.7/4.8' or 5.5' display with a 1920x1080p (440ppi), or a 2272×1280 (510ppi), powered by A8 chip (64-bit) and run on iOS 7.2. It is also expected to have a 1,800mAh battery.

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S5, which was released a week ago, sports a 5.1-inch Super AMOLED display with 1136x640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi, powered by 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 (32-bit architecture) series processor with 2GB RAM and runs on Android 4.4 KitKat. It has a 2800mAh battery.

It is not sure if the rumored features of iPhone 6 will become a reality as in the case of Samsung Galaxy S5 but Forbes contributor Antony Leather is of the opinion that Apple's flagship smartphone "will be one of the most significant launches yet of an Apple iPhone".
