After having a slow start, Imtiaz Ali's directorial film witnessed an upward trend during the weekends. The Bollywood drama film had a slow start on Friday with ₹3.42 crore but on Saturday the income of the film grew and it raked in ₹4.80 crore. On Sunday, the business further escalated and it raked in ₹5.75 crore.

"#Highway Fri 3.42 cr, Sat 4.80 cr, Sun 5.75 cr. Total: ₹13.97 cr nett. India biz only," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.

The business of the film is low because of limited number of screens (over 700) and normal ticket price. The film was mostly targeted at the multiplex audiences.

Shows in single screens were limited and in several multiplexes only 1 or 2 shows were screened, according to boxofficeindia.

The film has received positive reviews from critics as well as audiences. The positive word of mouth helped the film rake in decent figures during weekend. "Highway" is expected to fetch in fare amount in its first week also.

The income of the film might see a downfall in its second week due to the release of "Shaddi Ke Side Effects" next week.

Meanwhile, Alia is garnering praises for her role of Veera. Apart from "Highway", Alia will be seen in two other films this year. However, for the actress "Highway" has been the most special film.

"I want Highway to get all the love possible. And I am happy that I've had an overwhelming journey through this film. I hope people see it in the film," she told DNA newspaper
