“Dancing with the Stars” has fired Brooke Burke-Charvet as its host after seven seasons, reportedly replacing her with Erin Andrews.
Brooke, who won the seventh season of the show with dance partner Derek Hough in 2008, was reportedly informed that she was fired just on Friday, merely a few weeks before the next season of the show starts.
The news understandably shocked Brooke, who has co-hosted the show from the tenth season until the most recent one.
“I have enjoyed seven seasons co-hosting DWTS but understand the need for change considering the position of the show at this junction,” she said in a statement to eonline.com.
“I’ve always been one to embrace change and looking forward to pursuing opportunities I previously wasn’t able to entertain because of contractual obligations to the show. I’ve seen my fair share of shocking eliminations in the ballroom but this one takes the cake.”
DWTS executive producer Conrad Green confirmed Brooke’s exit, saying in a statement, “She’s been a wonderful part of the Dancing with the Stars family since her triumphant win in season seven and will unquestionably be missed by our entire team. We’d like to thank Brooke for her years of great service.”
He did not mention the reason why Brooke was sacked. However, the sudden change may be due to the producers’ bid to increase the show’s faltering ratings.
According to The Wrap, the show in November 2013 had its lowest season finale ever, with only 2.4 rating, down 20 per cent from the previous season.
The producers are perhaps hopeful that a change in the host would give the show its much needed ratings boost, and Erin may be the one to help them with it.
Erin, a sportscaster is Brooke’s replacement, sources revealed to The Big Lead.
The sources added that Erin won’t be leaving her job at Fox Sports, and will only do her DWTS co-hosting duties on ABC network during the week.
Tom Bergeron, who has been with the show since its conception in 2005, is still the co-host.
