Gionee Elife S5.5: World's Slimmest Smartphone Launched; Spec Details

Chinese smartphone maker Gionee unveiled a new handset, which the company claims is the thinnest smartphone in the world.

Dubbed Elife S5.5, the smartphone measures unbelievably thin at 5.5mm and beats the Vivo X3 smartphone, which is 5.75mm in thickness. The 3G models of the smartphone is currently available for preorder in China at around $370 and the company expects to launch the handset is other 40 countries in future. However, Gionee did not mention the availability of its latest offering in other countries. According to Engadget, the company will release LTE version of the Elife S5.5 in June.

The Gionee Elife S5.5 sports 5-inch display and runs on an Android-based Amigo OS. Other features of the smartphone include 1.7GHz quad-core CPU, 13-megapixel rear snapper and a 5-megapixel front camera for video calls and 2GB of RAM. Notable feature of this thinnest smartphone is its battery, which claims to keep the phone charged for a whole day. Other specifications and details of the smartphone is yet to be known, but reports suggest that the Gionee Elife S5.5 will make its appearance at the upcoming 2014 Mobile World Congress(MWC) in Barcelona .

Earlier this week, the company revealed its Gpad G4 and M2 in India and phablet sports a 5.7-inch HD (1280×720 pixels) display and is powered by a 1.5GHz MediaTek 6589T quad-core processor, paired with PowerVR SGX 544MP2 GPU. Other features include Android 4.2 Jelly Bean OS, 13 megapixel autofocus rear camera, 5 megapixel front-facing camera and 3200 mAh battery.

On the other hand, the M2 sports a 5-inch display with a FWVGA (480x854 pixels) resolution and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core Cortex A7 processor, along with a Mali 400MP GPU. It comes equipped with an 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera.
