Popular indigenous smartphone maker, Samsung is reportedly working on a water-proof handset.
Micromax Splash is expected to withstand 1-metre under water for close to 30 minutes and, if we closely look at the leaked photo, the phone features a 5.0-megapixel camera with LED flash but other key specification details, like display size, CPU and RAM capacity are yet to be ascertained.
It is to be noted that all IP67 certified smartphones fall under the high-end segment, especially marketed by the Japanese brand Sony, which has so far released durable phones like Xperia Z1, Z and ZR. These expensive handsets were hard to reach the hands of budget conscious buyers, but this trend may change with Micromax Splash, as the company is known to provide smartphones with top-of-the line features at cheap prices.
Last week, Micromax launched two smartphones - Canvas Power A96 with 4000 mAh battery and CDMA-based Canvas EG111.
Canvas Power A96 sports a 5.0-inch FWVGA (480x854p) TFT screen and packs a 1.3-GHz quad-core CPU, 512MB RAM, 4GB (expandable up to 32GB) and 5.0-megapixel (with flash support) on the rear side. It is priced under ₹10,000.
On the other hand, Canvas EG111 is mid-range handset. It flaunts a 5.3-inch HD (1280x720p) display and ships with Android v4.1 Jelly Bean OS powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 200 series Cortex A5 quad-core CPU paired with 1GB RAM and 4GB inbuilt memory. It costs ₹15,790.
