Previously, the second Nexus 10 is thought to be coming out as early as October this year but the 2013 Black Friday and Cyber Monday events have come and gone and the 10.1-inch stock Android tab remains missing in action.
Now that the holiday season is nearly over, Nexus fans are keeping their hopes alive that something really exciting from Google will be served out in the next few days. So all eyes are fixed on the 2014 version of the Consumer Electronics Show where there the refreshed Nexus 10 could be unwrapped.
While Google is silent on the matter, there were convincing signs that something big is unfolding on Jan 7 next week.
First, reports are persistent that Samsung intends to push out a bunch of new slates and the Galaxy maker means to use the 2014 CES as a launch platform. What this has got to do with the possible Nexus 10 2 debut?
Quite a lot and chief among them is Samsung built the first Nexus 10 so the likelihood of the company manufacturing the second edition is very high. True, there were circulating rumours that LG and Asus were considered for the 2013 Nexus 10 project but all these did not pan out, to date.
And it should be noted that one Google has quipped earlier this year that the new Nexus 10 is Samsung-made and should come right after the Nexus 7 2 rollout. While the release has yet to happen, it doesn't changed the fact that Samsung is a strong contender to supply the hardware requirements of the Nexus 10 2.
Right now, that very same tablet is reported to sport a 10.5-inch screen that uses the Asian tech giant's AMOLED display technology. Or it could even be a 12-inch (or 13-inch) slate that easily converts into a laptop when docked on a companion keyboard.
Then there's this observation that the Nexus 10 2 release date is imminent as the present crop of Nexus tablets are now on their way out. Analysts take on such conclusion as Google and its retail partners begin providing significant discounts for the first Nexus 10 and the 2012 Nexus 7 model.
Price points for the devices have been chopped off by as much as $50 and the move was designed to speed up the depletion of current stocks. Nexus watchers are convinced that once stock out is achieved, there'll be no replenishments to come thus paving the way for new product launches.
For many, there are the tell-tale signs that the Nexus 10 second coming is real and would-be buyers will only need to wait a few more days.
Should this fresh speculation turns out to be real then the Nexus 10 2 release date can be expected between Jan 7 and Jan 10, in which the 2014 CES will run its full course.
